We have had a problem with hornets in our backyard this summer. Their nest we thought was under our wood patio. So there was no just knocking the nest down. I would get cans of spray and stand at the door and spray them while Maggie and Turner pointed them out to me. In the mornings we could have up to 30 hornets swarming at our back patio door. I took these pics one day while they were mating on my back door. Maggie said "Mom why are they stuck together like that?" So one Saturday while Marcelo was here to play I asked him to help me figure this out. He started taking boards off the patio and we only found lots of holes. He got out his truck jack and lifted up the porch. No nests were found only holes. So we did a little research and found they are digger hornets and they live underground. So again I was at a loss for how to kill them while they live under ground under the porch. Luckily they are not aggressive (not that I am going to chance it with little kids), they are low key in the afternoon and night and their season is until August. We are still spraying what we see and they are slowly going away. We were able to play outside the other afternoon and have no problems. My kids are still very leery about going out there. Hopefully we won't be confined too much longer and thankfully we haven't wanted to play outside much since it is 100 degrees.
